EVERYONE BENEFITS FROM HEALTHY MARRIAGES.
The overriding message of this marriage initiative is that healthy marriages greatly benefit men, women, children, and communities. Studies show that:
Children whose parents have healthy marriages are more likely to attend college and succeed academically. They are less likely to commit suicide or be a victim of physical or sexual abuse. These children take drugs less frequently, are less likely to commit delinquent behaviors and be raised in poverty. They have strong relationships with their parents and are less likely to be sexually active as teenagers.
Women in satisfying relationships are wealthier and are physically and emotionally healthier. They are less likely to be victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other violent crimes. They have better relationships with their children and show a decreased risk for suicide and drug and alcohol abuse.
Men in healthy marriages live longer, are wealthier and healthier physically and emotionally. They have a more satisfying sexual relationship, are paid higher wages, and have more stable employment. These men show a decreased risk of drug and alcohol abuse and are less likely to attempt or commit suicide or violent crimes. Understandably, they have better relationships with their children.
The community benefits through higher rates of educated citizens, home ownership, and property values. They show decreased need for social services, lower rates of teen pregnancy and juvenile delinquency, and lower crime statistics.
